7 Characteristics of a Healthy Stomach You Need to Know

Therefore, it is very important to know what the dietary restrictions are for breast cancer sufferers so that the recovery process can run more optimally.

Various Food Restrictions for Breast Cancer Sufferers

The following are various types of food that breast cancer sufferers should limit or avoid as much as possible:

1. Raw or unpasteurized food

The immune system of breast cancer sufferers will generally be weakened. This can happen because the growth of cancer cells in the body has damaged many white blood cells or it could also be a side effect of cancer treatment, such as chemotherapy or radiation therapy.

Therefore, food that is raw or has not gone through the process of pasteurization should be avoided. The problem is, this type of food often contains germs, viruses and parasites that cause infections and diseases which can worsen the condition of breast cancer sufferers.

2. Foods high in sugar

The body does need sugar to supply energy. However, for breast cancer sufferers, consuming foods high in sugar in excess can actually make their condition worse, you know.

This is because consuming too much sugar can cause insulin resistance. This condition can accelerate the development of cancer cells by weakening the immune system and increasing inflammation in the body. As a result, the condition of breast cancer will get worse.

Some examples of foods that contain high levels of sugar and are dietary restrictions for breast cancer sufferers are pastries, donuts, martabak, ice cream and chocolate.

3. Soybeans and their processed products

Soybeans and their processed products, such as tofu, tempeh, soy milk and edamame,  are a source of vegetable protein needed by the body. Even so, this food should not be consumed excessively by people with ER positive breast cancer, which is a type of breast cancer whose growth is triggered by the hormone estrogen.

This is because soybeans and their processed products contain isoflavones, which are compounds that are similar to the hormone estrogen in the body. So, if consumed excessively, it is feared that this food could interfere with the effectiveness of certain cancer drugs and trigger the growth of breast cancer cells again.

4. Burnt food

Breast cancer sufferers should also avoid consuming foods, such as beef, chicken and fish that are grilled until charred.

You see, food processed in this way can contain carcinogenic substances called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). If consumed excessively by breast cancer sufferers, these foods can trigger the emergence of new cancer cells which can worsen the condition of breast cancer.

5. Fried food

Food that is processed by frying is also included in the dietary restrictions for breast cancer sufferers. The reason is, food processed in this way is high in trans fats, which can cause inflammation in the body.

Not only that, the high fat content in fried foods can also worsen complaints of nausea and vomiting in breast cancer sufferers who are undergoing chemotherapy treatment.

6. Processed food

The next food taboo for breast cancer sufferers is processed foods, such as nuggets, sausages or corned beef. This is because processed foods tend to contain various additional ingredients, such as preservatives, colorings and additives which often have carcinogenic effects.

Well, if breast cancer sufferers consume it continuously, this substance can trigger the growth of new cancer cells which can worsen the condition of breast cancer.

7. Junk food

For breast cancer sufferers who are undergoing chemotherapy treatment, you should first avoid consuming junk food, such as burgers, pizza and hot dogs.

This is because junk food is rich in saturated and trans fats, sugar and salt, but low in nutritional content, such as carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and minerals which are important for the healing and recovery process after chemotherapy.

Apart from that, the high fat content in this type of food can also worsen complaints of nausea and vomiting due to chemotherapy treatment, you know.

8. Fish high in mercury

Fish is good for breast cancer sufferers to consume because it contains various nutrients that can increase the body's endurance. However, be careful when choosing the type of fish you want to consume. The reason is, there are several types of fish that are dietary restrictions for breast cancer sufferers because they contain high levels of mercury.

This substance is dangerous because it can not only stimulate cancer cells to continue to grow and be more difficult to eradicate, but also risks disrupting the function of the body's organs.

Several types of fish that contain high levels of mercury and are dietary restrictions for breast cancer sufferers are tuna, mackerel, mackerel, tondak, marlin and shark. Meanwhile, fish that are classified as low in mercury and safe for consumption by breast cancer sufferers are goldfish, catfish, mackerel, gourami and tilapia.

These are various dietary restrictions for breast cancer sufferers. Even though it is a taboo, these various foods are actually okay for breast cancer sufferers to consume.

Because in some cases, many breast cancer sufferers who undergo chemotherapy experience a decrease in appetite. So, if left untreated and limiting food consumption, this can actually result in breast cancer sufferers not getting enough nutrition, so that the post-chemotherapy recovery process is disrupted.

However, make sure that the consumption of these foods is not excessive and that the breast cancer sufferer is in a stable or good condition.

To prevent worsening of breast cancer, also adopt a healthy lifestyle, such as consuming healthy and nutritious food, exercising regularly, not smoking or inhaling the smoke, getting enough rest, and managing stress well.

Apart from that, make sure you also have regular check-ups with your doctor so that your breast cancer condition remains under control.
