Consuming body-warming foods not only provides a feeling of comfort, but also maintains body temperature within the normal range during cold weather. Well, the foods that make the body warm also vary, not just those with soup, you know. 

Low environmental temperatures can cause body temperature decreases. As a result, your immune system can also go down, you know. Therefore, quite a few people get sick easily when the weather is cold. So that the body remains healthy, it is important to maintain body temperature within the normal range, which is around 36–37o C.

Variety of Body Warming Foods

If you are still confused about what to eat when the weather is cold, here are some recommendations for body-warming foods you can try:

1. Steamed eggs 

Apart from being generally served hot, eggs steamed is also a body warming food thanks to its high protein content. Please note, protein takes longer to be digested by the body. This causes more calories to be burned and produces a warming effect on the body. 

2. Pindang catfish

Healthy fats in food play an important role in keeping the body warm so that it can maintain its normal temperature. One dish that is rich in healthy fats is pindang patin. 

Patin is classified as fatty fish and is a source of protein. Apart from that, catfish is also equipped with omega-3 fatty acids which are good for the heart.  

3. Chicken soup 

Just like steamed eggs, the protein content in chicken soup is relatively high so it can be included in body warming foods. Plus, soto sauce consists of kitchen spices that have anti-inflammatory properties, such as lemongrass and turmeric, one of the effects of which is to increase body temperature.  

4. Meat soup 

Not only protein from meat, fiber from vegetables in meat soup also takes longer to be digested by the body, so it can burn more calories and produce heat. That's why you can make meat soup as a body warming food choice. 

Apart from that, the soup is also enriched with spices, such as ginger and pepper, which have a warming effect on the body. 

5. Avocado

Avocados are not served warm like other dishes, but this fruit is rich in healthy fats which can increase body temperature, you know. Apart from that, avocados are also equipped with vitamin C and vitamin E which can strengthen the body's immune system, so your body doesn't get sick easily in cold weather. 

6. Boiled beans

Boiled peanuts eaten warm when it rains are really effective for warming the body. However, its ability to increase body temperature is also supported by the high fat and protein content in nuts.

7. Tofu flower 

This soft-textured dish consists of boiled soybean water soaked in ginger sauce and brown sugar. Tofu flower is a body warming food because it contains protein, fiber and fat sourced from soybeans. The addition of ginger water as a soup beancurd also has a warming effect on the body.   

8. Sekoteng

You can also use sekoteng as a body-warming food, especially during the rainy season. Boiled water ginger which has anti-inflammatory properties can have a warming effect on the body, while peanuts and green beans as a filling are rich in protein.    

9. Chicken penyet with shrimp paste 

Chicken penyet with chili paste is not a soupy food, but it can also warm the body, here. This is thanks to chicken which is high in protein and chili paste which contains capsaicin from chilies. Capsaicin is known to have a warming effect on the body while helping to maintain normal body temperature. 

10. Meatballs   

This meat and broth mixture is the prima donna of body warming food. This is not surprising because meatballs contain protein, either from beef or fish, and fiber from vegetables, such as bean sprouts or mustard greens. Not to mention, if you add chili sauce that contains capsaicin, the warm effect of a bowl of meatballs on the body will be even greater.

Well, to speed up the rise in body temperature, you can also do other things, such as actively moving, wearing thick or layered clothes, and taking a warm shower. If you have done this method and consumed body warming foods but you still feel cold, consult a doctor

Do not delay seeing a doctor if your body temperature is below 35oC and accompanied by symptoms, such as shivering, slow response or confusion, weak pulse, pale skin, or difficulty speaking, as these could be signs of hypothermia.
