Patella dislocation is a condition where the dog's kneecap (patella) slips out of its proper place. This condition is usually caused by birth defects and injuries. Patella dislocation can cause a dog to have difficulty walking, limping, and pain.

Hepatic shunt

This is a condition where blood flows through the liver through an abnormal route, so that the liver cannot filter waste in the blood. Maltese dogs with this condition may experience several symptoms, such as slow growth, poor muscle development, disorientation, and seizures.

Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA)

PDA is a congenital heart defect in dogs. This disorder develops while the dog is in the womb. If left untreated, PDA can risk causing complications in the form of heart failure.

Entropion

Entropion occurs when eyelashes prick and injure the eye. This can happen when the eyelid folds inward. This disease occurs more often in Maltese dogs whose facial fur is rarely trimmed or cut.

How to Care for a Maltese Dog

1. Clean his fur regularly

Maltese dogs have long fur so it gets tangled easily. Therefore, you need to regularly comb and clean its fur every day. Apart from that, don't forget to bathe him regularly, namely once every 1–2 weeks.

2. Trim the fur so it's not too long

A Maltese dog's fur can grow to touch the floor so it gets dirty very easily. Therefore, you should cut the fur so that it is not too long.

Many Maltese dog owners leave the fur around 3–5 cm long. However, if you want this dog's fur to remain long, make sure the ends don't touch the floor.

3. Clean his teeth and eyes
