Finger Pregnancy Test, Is It Effective?

There is an assumption that a finger pregnancy test can be a way to detect pregnancy. This is because during early pregnancy, the cervix changes. However, is this method correct and effective? To find out the answer, see the explanation below.

Women who are undergoing a pregnancy program are certainly looking forward to the appearance of signs of pregnancy. If you experience it and want to know immediately whether you are pregnant, various pregnancy tests can be done, for example with a test pack.

Finger Pregnancy Test, Is It Effective?

However, pregnancy is also marked by changes in the cervix or cervix so you can find out just by inserting your finger into the vagina. Although considered more practical, is this method effective?

Facts About Finger Pregnancy Test

In early pregnancy, the location of the cervix or cervix will be higher. That is, the cervix will be more difficult to reach by fingers. The texture also becomes soft and not stiff due to the influence of changes in hormone levels during pregnancy

A cervix that is high and feels soft can indeed be identified by inserting a finger into the vagina. However, this method is certainly difficult for many women to do, especially since the position of the cervix for each woman is different.

A pregnancy test with a finger is also not as accurate as a pregnancy test through a urine test or blood test. Both of these methods are used to detect the hormone hCG, which is a hormone produced by the body during pregnancy.

So, the use of fingers to detect pregnancy cannot be used. If you feel signs of pregnancy, such as late menstruation, frequent urination, and vomiting, you should choose another practical method, such as a test pack or seeing a doctor.

Other Pregnancy Tests

Considering that the finger pregnancy test is ineffective, it is recommended that you use the following tests to detect pregnancy:

Urine test

Instead of using a finger test, urine tests are far more effective in detecting pregnancy. This test can be done at home or in the hospital. If you want to do it at home, you can buy pregnancy test kits or test packs that are sold at pharmacies.

The most effective urine test for pregnancy is carried out 1–2 weeks after the missed menstrual period. This is because the test done too early can show inaccurate results due to the body not producing enough hCG hormone

Blood test

Similar to urine tests, blood tests can also be used to detect pregnancy. Through a blood test, the hCG hormone can be detected even though the amount is still small.

After the blood sample is taken, the blood will be examined in the laboratory. The results can come out in a matter of hours. However, because this test takes longer, it is rarely used to detect pregnancy.

Therefore, urine tests are usually done more often because they are practical, cheap, easy, and the results are faster than blood tests.

Compared to a difficult and inaccurate finger pregnancy test, it is recommended that you detect pregnancy through a urine test or blood test.

If you do a test pack yourself and the results are positive, don't hesitate to see a doctor to confirm pregnancy with other tests, for example ultrasound.
