To prevent infection with this virus, avoid direct contact with these animals, especially if the animals are sick or suddenly die.

2. Wash your hands frequently

Transmission of monkeypox between humans can occur through indirect contact, namely when touching objects that have been contaminated with the monkeypox virus and then touching the face area without washing hands.

The risk of contracting the monkeypox virus will increase if you accidentally inhale the saliva of a monkeypox patient that can be released when he talks, sneezes, or coughs.

So, to prevent the transmission of this disease, you must not forget he to wear a mask when leaving the house. Use a mask that can cover your mouth, nose, and chin perfectly.

4. Cook food until done

When processing food, especially meat, cook it until it's fully cooked. In addition to reducing the risk of transmitting the monkeypox virus, cooking food thoroughly also prevents bacterial infections that can be found in raw meat.

5. Avoid sexual intercourse that is risky

Another effort that can be done to prevent transmission of monkeypox is to avoid risky sexual relations, for example by using condoms during sex, not changing sexual partners, not using various sex aids, and as much as possible making sure that sex partners do not infected with the virus monkeypox.

In addition to the steps above, you are also advised not to travel to areas or countries with high cases of monkeypox. You also need to avoid direct contact with people who are positive or suspected of being infected with this disease.

What about vaccines? Currently, a vaccine is being developed that can provide protection against monkeypox virus infection. Two options that are still limited in availability are JYNNEOS which requires 2 doses and ACAM2000 which is given 1 time (single dose).

In Indonesia, the two vaccines are not yet available. However, the risk of getting monkeypox can be minimized how by taking the precautions above.

If you feel a complaint similar to monkeypox symptoms, especially if you have just traveled to a country that has a lot of monkeypox cases, immediately consult a doctor to determine the cause and get the right treatment.
