During pregnancy, pregnant women experience various physiological changes so that the body needs more fluids. This fluid is used to support fetal growth and development, formation of the placenta, and to produce amniotic fluid.

Water consumption is very important to maintain fluid levels in the body. However, how much water should be consumed by each person can vary, depending on the age, gender, and condition of each body. In general, the recommended fluid intake is 2 liters or about 8 glasses per day.

Pregnant Mother's Fluid Needs per Day

Based on the advice of the Indonesian Ministry of Health, Pregnant women need to consume at least 2.1 liters of water or about 8 glasses every day. If pregnant women lack drinking water, dehydration can occur which triggers short-term and long-term health problems and one of them is constipation. Dehydration in the last trimester of pregnancy can increase the risk of premature contractions or premature birth of the baby. more concentrated.

Criteria for Proper Drinking Water for Pregnant Women

The most ideal fluid intake consumed by pregnant women is mineral water. Mineral water comes from natural water sources and contains a variety of essential minerals for the body. Mineral content in drinking water includes:

  • Calcium carbonate
  • Magnesium sulfate
  • Potassium
  • Sodium sulfate

Selection of safe mineral water must be considered. Pregnant women need to consider several things in choosing safe and quality mineral water for consumption so that it can support health.

The following are the criteria for good quality mineral water according to the Regulation of the Minister of Health No.492/2010:

  • Drinking water is tasteless, colorless, odorless and does not contain harmful substances (contamination)
  • The water source is protected, so that the water is free from pollution and its quality is maintained
  • The mineral content is maintained and through a process carried out according to health standards, which has passed a strict quality check and has been certified by BPOM

For pregnant women who have difficulty drinking water due to nausea or morning sickness, no need to worry. Pregnant women can choose mineral water with protected quality, so that the mineral balance is maintained and provides a neutral taste that does not cause nausea. During pregnancy, pregnant women are advised to drink more water and limit their consumption of caffeinated and high-sugar drinks.

If pregnant women want to consume fruit juice, try to make it yourself and make sure the fruit used has been washed thoroughly.
