Don't let it drag on, here are 6 easy ways to deal with stress
The Food and Drug Administration (BPOM) has issued an emergency use of authorization (EUA) for the drug Avifavir for COVID-19. Although phase III clinical trials are still in progress, this drug is claimed to have high effectiveness in curing COVID-19 patients.
After the Avigan drug, the BPOM officially gave an emergency permit for the use of avifavir for COVID-19. Because Avifavir's status is still EUA, BPOM is still monitoring the distribution of this drug, and evaluating its quality, quality, safety, and effectiveness.
Getting to know Avifavir for COVID-19
The drug Avifavir is produced by Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and ChemRar Group from Russia. Since the beginning of June 2020, this drug has been supplied to all regions of Russia and 15 countries around the world. Indonesia became the first Asian country to register the drug Avifavir.
The active ingredient of Avifavir is favipiravir, which is generally used to treat infections caused by several types of influenza viruses, such as influenza A which causes bird flu and swine flu, influenza B and influenza C.
Favipiravir works by inhibiting the polymerase enzyme, an enzyme that plays a role in RNA replication. Because the replication process is inhibited, the virus cannot reproduce and spread to other organs in the body.
Avifavir is the first Russian drug to be licensed for the treatment of COVID-19. The results of clinical trials in stages 2 and 3 show that this drug can kill the Corona virus for approximately 4 days. This is much faster than the usual treatment which can take up to 9 days.
The effectiveness of the drug Avifavir in curing COVID-19 is quite high, which is more than 80%. In addition, clinical trial results also state that this drug is safe to administer to COVID-19 patients of all conditions and ages.
Even though it is declared safe, BPOM only allows the drug Avifavir to be used for COVID-19 patients with mild to moderate symptoms and at least 18 years of age. This medicine should only be used as directed by a doctor and is not intended for pregnant women.
BPOM also asked the pharmaceutical industry responsible for Avifavir distribution to continue phase 3 clinical trials to ensure the effectiveness and safety of this drug.
The presence of the drug Avifavir in Indonesia is an effort to increase the success of COVID-19 treatment. In addition to giving Afivavir, COVID-19 patients may also be given several other types of COVID-19 drugs, according to their health conditions.
To prevent contracting or transmitting the Corona virus, make sure you always apply health protocols, namely maintaining physical distancing, washing your hands regularly, wearing a mask when you are outside the home, and avoiding crowds.
If you still have questions about COVID-19, you can chat directly with the doctor on the ALODOKTER app. In this application, you can also make an appointment with a doctor at the hospital.
