Many parents say that it is strictly forbidden for pregnant women to sleep in the morning, even when sleepy because it is difficult to sleep at night. Reportedly, sleeping when the sun has shone can cause a pregnant woman's white blood cells to jump up, endangering pregnancy and fetal health.
No Sleep in the Morning for Pregnant Women is Just a Myth
Pregnant women need to know that when pregnant, almost every woman will experience an increase in white blood cells. However, this has nothing to do with the habit of sleeping in the morning which may be a lot of pregnant women who have trouble sleeping at night.
This increase actually occurs as a response to changes in the physical and organ function of the pregnant woman's body to support pregnancy and the development of the baby in the womb. Usually, the white blood cell levels will return to normal at 4 weeks after delivery.
Sleep is a pleasure for everyone, especially those who are very sleepy and sleep deprived. It is also known that adequate sleep brings great health benefits, including for pregnant women.
In addition, hormonal and physical changes occur during pregnancy, which makes pregnant women prone to feeling tired so they need more sleep, which is around 7–9 hours. However, for the same reason, not a few pregnant women complain of difficulty sleeping at night.
In fact, some pregnant women can experience insomnia throughout pregnancy. The causes vary, from repeated urination, nausea and vomiting, to discomfort in the stomach and all over the body.
