Help Prevent the Spread of COVID-19, This Is an Independent Isolation Protocol that Needs to Be Implemented
In Indonesia, the number of patients infected with the Corona virus or COVID-19 continues to grow. So that the level of spread is not getting worse, the government recommends that the community stay at home and implement a self-isolation protocol, especially for those experiencing symptoms of COVID-19.
An independent isolation protocol was issued by the government with the aim of reducing transmission of COVID-19. Because the Corona virus is easily spread and can cause severe symptoms and have fatal consequences.
This protocol is not intended for everyone. The following are recommended for self-isolation protocols:
- Having one of the mild symptoms of COVID-19, such as a cough, fever, or sore throat that can be treated at home, and not have comorbidities, such as heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, or chronic lung disease
- Living with people who have symptoms of COVID-19
- Having had a rapid test /> COVID-19 and the results are positive, but do not experience symptoms
Independent Isolation Protocol that Needs to be Applied
If you have symptoms or close contact with people who have symptoms, you must be responsible for doing isolation independently at home, for at least 14 days. The following are the things you need to do during self-isolation at home according to government recommendations:
1. No activity outside the home
When in isolation, you may not leave the house or go to public places even for work. If possible, work from home during isolation. However, if you are sick, it is recommended that you rest for a while to recover.
If you have symptoms and recover in less than 14 days, you should still stay at home and wait until the isolation period is over. As much as possible, avoid receiving guests.
If during isolation there is a need to go outside the home, such as buying food or medicine, ask someone else who is not undergoing isolation to do so. You can also use the online service application to fulfill your daily needs.
2. Avoid close contact with people who live at home
While at home, you are advised to be in a separate room with other residents. Rooms are advised to have good ventilation and lighting.
Even so, that doesn't mean you have to always be in the room and other people may not enter. This is permissible, as long as it stays within certain limits.
When you are in the same room with other residents, keep your distance or do physical distancing, especially with people who are vulnerable to COVID- 19, such as the elderly, owners of chronic diseases, and pregnant women. Keep a distance of at least 1 meter and avoid talking face to face with others for more than 15 minutes.
3. Wear a mask
Even at home, you are still advised to wear a mask, which is a type of surgical mask, to prevent transmission to families or people who are in the same house with You.
If there is no mask, you are advised not to linger in one room with other occupants of the house. If one of the occupants of the house enters the isolation room, for example to deliver food, you are advised to wear a cloth mask to reduce the risk of transmission.
4. Use separate equipment
During independent isolation, use separate plates, spoons, forks, and cups. Toiletries, such as towels and toothbrushes, must also be separate from other residents of the house.
In addition, provide special bins or plastic bags to remove the tissue that you use to cough, sneeze, and clean your mouth or nose . You are also advised to regularly clean the surface of objects that are frequently touched, such as washbasins, door handles, or telephones, with disinfecting liquid.
5. Apply clean and healthy behavior
Wash your hands regularly with soap and water. Don't forget to drink lots of water, at least 8 glasses a day, and consume nutritious food. You are also advised to sunbathe and do light exercise in the sun every morning for 15-30 minutes so that your body is fitter and healed faster.
Monitor your health independently, by measuring your body temperature every day and observe symptoms that arise. If you have a fever, you can take medicine that contains paracetamol according to the rules of use listed on the medicine package.
Also, keep in touch with family members and friends over the phone, video call, or social media. Do not let isolation at home make you feel left out and lonely.
6. Contact the hospital
If in the middle of isolation a new complaint or complaint that you experience becomes severe, for example, a high fever accompanied by a persistent cough and difficulty breathing, immediately contact the hospital or COVID-19 hotline for treatment.
To prevent others from being infected, you are advised to stay at home. If needed, the hospital will send a special ambulance to pick you up.
Isolation at home can be difficult for some people. However, this simple method is effective to protect you, your family and people around you, even the entire Indonesian community from COVID-19.
Regardless of the presence or absence of symptoms and contact with people who suffer or are suspected of suffering COVID-19, everyone is advised to stay at home and limit activities outside the home, especially those involving many people. If possible, ask for the choice to work or study from home.
The reason is, the Corona virus or SARS-CoV-2 can spread even from people who don't have symptoms. So, someone can be infected or transmit this virus without realizing it.
If you are still in doubt whether you need to do independent isolation at home, consult with your doctor through chat in the Alodokter application. In addition, you can also do consultations in this application regarding any health problems, both related to COVID-19 or not, so you don't need to leave the house.
