Pus discharge is a symptom of a disease, such as a sexually transmitted disease (STD) or urinary tract infection. Causes of Pus Coming Out

There are several diseases that can cause the penis to leak out, including:

1. Gonorrhea or gonorrhea

Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the bacteria Neisseria gonorrhoeae.

Some men affected by gonorrhea do not show any complaints or symptoms. But some others can show symptoms of pus out of the penis accompanied by pain or tenderness during urination. Although rare, gonorrhea in men can also be marked by swelling of the testes.

Gonorrhea that often recurs and is not treated can cause infertility, both in men and women. Men who have gonorrhea are also at high risk of transmitting the disease to their sexual partners.

3. Balanitis

Balanitis is an infection or inflammation of the head and foreskin of the penis. The cause can be bacterial or fungal infections to allergies or skin irritation around the penis head. This disease can occur due to hygiene of the penis that is not maintained. Balanitis is also more at risk for uncircumcised men.

Besides pus out of the penis, other symptoms of balantis are dry penile skin accompanied by itching, pain, and swelling in the skin around the base of the penis. To treat balanitis, the doctor will usually prescribe an ointment in the form of antigatal creams, antifungals and antibiotics.

4. Chlamydia

Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted infection caused by Chlamydia trachomatis bacteria. Symptoms of chlamydia include pus discharge or greenish fluid accompanied by pain when urinating, itching around the penis hole, and pain in one or both testicles.

Just like sexually transmitted diseases due to other bacterial infections, this disease needs to be treated with antibiotics.

5. Penile Cancer

Penile cancer is a rare type of cancer that occurs in the skin and penis area. Symptoms include:

  • The penis comes out with pus or foul-smelling liquid.
  • A lump appears on the penis.
  • Sores on the penis that do not heal within four weeks.
  • Rash or redness of the penis.
  • Bleeding from the penis or from under the foreskin.
  • Thickening of the skin of the penis or foreskin which makes it difficult to retract (phimosis).
  • Changes in the skin color of the penis or foreskin.

Treatment of penile cancer depends on the area affected and the extent of cancer spread. Treatment of penile cancer can be sought with chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery.

Prevention of Pus Excretion

To avoid diseases that can cause penis discharge, you need to implement the following preventative measures:

  • Don't change sexual partners.
  • Use a condom when having sex.
