Therefore, if you do have a history of GERD, the chances of experiencing GERD anxiety when you are feeling anxious may be higher than those who have no history of GERD at all.

Symptoms of GERD anxiety can vary from person to person. However, the symptoms that appear when someone experiences GERD anxiety are the same as the symptoms of increased stomach acid. These symptoms include:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Chest pain
  • Stomach ache
  • Heartburn
  • Globus sensation or like there is a lump in the throat
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Anxiety or nervousness
  • The heart beats fast

Well, when symptoms of GERD anxiety appear, taking stomach acid medication usually doesn't immediately relieve the complaint. Therefore, preventive steps need to be taken in the following ways:

  • Avoid foods that can trigger GERD, such as fried foods, spicy foods, fatty foods, chocolate, or sour-tasting foods
  • Do not consume caffeinated or alcoholic drinks
  • Eat small portions, but more often
  • Manage stress by doing positive things, for example meditation, yoga, confiding in friends, or pursuing a hobby
  • Implement sleep hygiene to improve sleep quality

GERD anxiety can be overcome by finding ways to manage stress and anxiety that are effective for yourself. What is effective for other people may not be effective for you.
