Tingling Palms and How to Overcome It
Tingling palms are generally temporary and can go away on their own. However, in certain cases, these complaints can occur continuously and are accompanied by pain, itching, and even numbness. To overcome this, there are several ways that can be done.
Tingling palms are a common complaint experienced by many people. This condition can occur due to pressure on the palms for a long time, so that blood flow to the nerves is disrupted. For example, supporting your head while sleeping with your palms or wearing something tight.
Tinging palms are generally painless and go away on their own after fixing the position of the pressed palms. However, sometimes tingling can occur continuously, even though there is no pressure on the palms anymore.
In this condition, the palms can also feel sore, itchy, and numb. Usually, tingling palms accompanied by other symptoms is a sign of damage to the peripheral nervous system. This condition in medical terms is called peripheral neuropathy.
Peripheral neuropathy can occur due to physical injury, excessive alcohol consumption, nutritional deficiencies, diabetes, bacterial or viral infections, consumption of chemotherapy or anti-seizure drugs, CTS, and autoimmune diseases. If left untreated, peripheral neuropathy can get worse and limit hand movement.
How to Overcome Tingling Palms
The treatment for tingling palms depends on the cause. If it is caused by certain conditions, such as an infectious or inflammatory disease, usually treating this condition will also relieve symptoms of tingling in the palms.In general, here are some ways to deal with tingling palms that can be applied everyday:
1. Using essential oils
One way to deal with tingling palms is to apply essential oils, such as chamomile and lavender. You can apply it in the palm area while doing a gentle massage. Remember, mix the essential oil with a carrier oil first, such as olive oil.

- Avoid excessive consumption of sugar, for example from packaged foods and soft drinks.
- Exercise regularly.
- Consume high-protein foods, such as nuts and low-fat meat.
4. Control blood sugar levels
High blood sugar or diabetes is the most common cause of neuropathy. If you have or are at risk of developing diabetes, it's important to get the right treatment to control your blood sugar, such as maintaining a healthy lifestyle, avoiding high sugar intake, and taking anti-diabetic medication.
If you have diabetes but don't have signs of neuropathy, such as tingling in the palms, you still need to control your blood sugar levels to prevent nerve damage. That way, tingling in the palms due to nerve damage can be avoided.
5. Avoid alcoholic beverages and cigarettes
To overcome tingling palms, one way is to avoid alcoholic beverages and cigarettes. Smoking can make blood vessels narrow and affect blood circulation
Without good blood circulation, you are more susceptible to experiencing tingling, numbness, and pain from peripheral neuropathy, including in the palms of the hands. In addition, consumption of alcoholic beverages can also worsen the symptoms of peripheral neuropathy.

Not only reducing the frequency of pins and needles, hand exercises can also increase joint flexibility, strengthen hands and fingers, increase range of motion, and improve blood flow.
However, if you have serious joint inflammation or damage and experience severe pain, you should seek medical advice before engaging in regular hand exercises.
7. Undergoing physical therapy
If the tingling in the palms is caused by physical injury, for example falling from a motorbike or something heavy hits the palms, the treatment generally is physical therapy or physiotherapy.
