Pubic hair lice usually occur in adults, but can also affect children. The common way of transmission or spread is through sexual contact. In addition to sexual contact, pubic hair lice can also be spread through objects used by an infected person, such as towels, clothing, or bed linens. Even so, pubic hair lice cannot be transmitted through the use of toilets, because they do not have legs that can survive on slippery surfaces and cannot live away from the warmth of the human body.

If you feel itching around your sex organs, and the itching gets worse at night, you may have been infected with pubic hair lice. Try to check for a collection of eggs or lice around the pubic hair or other body parts that feel itchy. • Wash clean clothes, sheets, or towels that you use, with soap and hot water at least 54 degrees Celsius or more. Then dry for 20 minutes in hot temperatures, or dry for at least 2 days in the hot sun. If there are items that cannot be washed, try placing them in an airtight bag for two weeks.
  • Use a flea-killing shampoo or lotion containing permethrin, repeat 7 to 10 days later to kill any eggs that may not have died on the first dose. You can buy this shampoo or lotion at the pharmacy, but before buying and using it, it is advisable to consult with your doctor first.

To help get rid of lice on the hair and eyebrows, you can apply moisturizer petroleum jelly on the hair around the eyes. Use twice a day, for a minimum of 3-4 weeks.

If the medication given still doesn't work to kill the lice, the doctor may prescribe lindane, which is usually given after other treatments haven't worked. However, this drug should not be given to nursing mothers, pregnant women, the elderly, and children under 2 years.

See your doctor after a week of treatment or after you feel the lice around your sex organs are dead. The doctor will make sure the pubic hair lice and nits are completely gone.

In addition to conducting tests to diagnose pubic hair lice, the doctor may also check for sexually transmitted diseases, such as chlamydia. Because, pubic hair lice are more common in those who suffer from sexually transmitted diseases.
