This is how to maintain your immune system during times of high air pollution and hot weather

The 5-month-old fetus is becoming more visible and stronger, because the development of its organs is almost complete. This is why pregnant women begin to feel the fetus kicking or hitting. In fact, fetuses at this age can already react to stimuli from outside the womb, for example loud sounds.

When the fetus is 5 months old, pregnant women will feel more comfortable because their appetite has improved. Pregnant women's stomachs also get bigger as the fetus develops rapidly. At this age, the fetus's body is about 23–25 cm long or the size of a banana, with a weight of up to 450 grams.

This is 5 Month Fetal Development

The body shape of the fetus at 5 months of pregnancy looks increasingly like the future baby you know, pregnant women. So, here is the development of a 5 month fetus based on weeks:

Week 17

When you reach 5 months of age, the fetus is already the size of a turnip. Not only that, there are also other fetal developments this week, namely:

  • The fetal skin begins to be covered by vernix caseosa, which is a layer of fat that functions to protect the fetal skin from exposure to amniotic fluid
  • Sweat glands begin to develop
  • Almost all cartilage becomes hard bone
  • Flesh and fat begin to grow around the hard bones
  • The umbilical cord or placenta which connects the blood circulation of the pregnant woman and the fetus is getting stronger and thicker
  • The heart is already pumping blood

Week 18

The baby in the pregnant woman's womb is already the size of a bell pepper in the 18th week. As the size of the fetus increases, its body development becomes more rapid. The following is the development of the fetus at 18 weeks:

  • The fetus's body is covered with lanugo which keeps the fetus warm
  • The fetus already has a sleep and wake cycle, even loud noises around pregnant women can wake them up
  • The facial structure of the fetus, including ears, nose, lips, eyelids and eyebrows, can be recognized via ultrasound
  • Respiratory sacs in the lungs that allow oxygen and carbon dioxide to come in and out begin to form
  • The genitals are completely visible via ultrasound
  • The uterus and fallopian tubes in the female fetus have formed
  • The digestive system begins to function

Week 19

The fetus's body shape becomes even more adorable as it enters the 19th week. Now, pregnant women are the size of mangoes. In line with its increasing body size, the fetus' movements also become more agile because its muscles are developing.

So, so that pregnant women don't get curious, the following is the development of the fetus at 19 weeks:

  • The fetus can yawn, hiccup, suck its thumb and swallow
  • Pregnant women can already feel kicks or blows from their tiny feet and hands
  • Fingerprints appear on the fetus's fingers and toes
  • The nerves that regulate the senses of taste, hearing, sight and smell begin to develop in the fetus' brain

Week 20

At the end of the 5th month, the fetus is the size of a banana. Fetal development is increasingly visible in the 20th week, which includes:

  • The fetus's nails have grown to the tips of the fingers
  • Fetal hiccups begin to feel like soft, rhythmic jerks
  • The part of the brain responsible for the five senses begins to develop

The development of the 5 month fetus has experienced a lot of progress. This is characterized by fetal movement that begins to be felt, especially when the fetus hiccups or kicks its legs.

However, if the pregnant woman hasn't felt any movement when the fetus is 5 months old, it's actually no problem. The problem is, there are various conditions that make it difficult for the fetus to move, for example the size of the fetus, the position of the fetus, and the location of the placenta. This is what makes the fetus not feel the kick or blow.

In order for fetal development to always be optimal every month, it is important to maintain the health of pregnant women and fetuses. That's why pregnant women need to consume balanced nutritious food and pregnancy vitamins prescribed by a doctor, get enough rest, and have their pregnancy checked by a doctor according to schedule.
