What Causes Brittle Diabetes?

As previously explained, brittle diabetes can occur as a result of diabetics not taking medication as recommended by a doctor. However, there are several other things that can also increase the risk of diabetics experiencing this condition, namely:

  • Experiencing stress, so the body has difficulty producing insulin
  • Suffering from digestive disorders, such as celiac disease or gastroparesis, so that the intestines cannot absorb nutrients properly
  • Suffer from hormonal disorders that reduce the function of the hormone insulin, such as hypothyroidism, or PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome).

How to Prevent Brittle Diabetes?

Actually, the most important way to prevent brittle diabetes is to maintain normal blood sugar levels in the body, one of which is by following the diabetes treatment recommendations that have been given by doctors.

In addition to the ways to prevent brittle diabetes above, sufferers are also asked to check their blood sugar levels regularly. Doctors usually recommend using a special blood sugar meter that can be checked at a certain time and gives an alarm when the sugar level is too low or high.

Diabetics also need to adopt a healthy lifestyle, such as doing regular exercise, managing stress, and maintaining an ideal body weight. Sufferers are also advised to eat at the same time every day with the right portion of food and the type of food that is nutritious and low in sugar.

Meanwhile, a medication that can be used to maintain blood sugar levels is a subcutaneous insulin pump. This tool will pump insulin into the body automatically into the body. Later, this tool will release the insulin hormone little by little to balance blood sugar levels

To prevent blood sugar levels from getting too high or too low in brittle diabetes, you can consult with your doctor about how to use insulin and the right medicines, as well as diet and types of food that are good for your condition.
